22. HARSEN’S ISALND BEAN
The Harsens Island Bean is an incredibly rare pole bean from Harsens Island, located in Lake St. Clair on the US/Canadian border. Our original seed stock came from Karen Golden, owner of Michigan Heirlooms. This bean has been cultivated on the island for at least 45 years, if not longer. It is a highly productive variety that yields an abundance of 8-10 inch beans on vigorous vines, which require sturdy trellising. A truly special Michigan heirloom and one of our new favorite beans! Very rare.
