518. FIRST MATE
The First Mate tomato is an indeterminate, mid-season variety developed by American breeder Millard Murdock. This plant features regular leaf foliage and produces medium to large beefsteak-type fruits, typically weighing between 180 to 350 grams. The tomatoes are round, slightly flattened at the poles, with smooth, tri-colored skin displaying hues of amber, green, and red. Inside, the flesh is green marbled with pink, offering a fleshy and juicy texture. The flavor is excellent when consumed “al dente,” but it may lose its taste qualities if overripe. The plant demonstrates good productivity, yielding fruit regularly from mid-season until frost.
