315. BLUE BAYOU

The Blue Bayou tomato is an indeterminate variety developed by breeder Tom Wagner, notable for its striking appearance and balanced flavor. The fruits are small to medium-sized, typically weighing between 2 to 4 ounces (approximately 60 to 120 grams), and exhibit a unique coloration with crimson-red skin and purple anthocyanin-rich shoulders, especially pronounced in areas exposed to direct sunlight. This anthocyanin presence not only enhances the visual appeal but also contributes to the fruit’s nutritional value. The flavor profile is a harmonious blend of sweetness and tanginess, making it versatile for fresh consumption in salads, sandwiches, or as a cooked ingredient in various dishes. The plants are indeterminate and vining, reaching heights of about 200 cm, and are known for their productivity and disease resistance. With a mid-season maturity of approximately 80 days from transplanting, Blue Bayou tomatoes are a delightful addition to any garden, offering both aesthetic appeal and culinary versatility.
